Bike Parking

This is a bike parking lot at Amsterdam's Centraal Station.
The Netherlands is the world capital of bike transportation.
It's beautiful not smelling, seeing, and hearing the cars,
but when you hear the bell go dingding
you better get the hell out of the way!

KCWMSL

I miss my furry adventure partner Katie!  She's off trekking through the jungles of Costa Rica, becoming one with the bugs, and their bites!  I'm going to visit her out there.  I just got my ticket - October 12 to November 4.  I've heard nothing but great things about Costa Rica, and any trip with Katie is a fabulous one!

Big Sur

Welcome to California!
This is Big Sur - a magical place!
California's Highway 1 might possibly be the most beautiful highway in the world.
Anyone care to differ?

Capoeira

This photo is of a Brazilian Capoeira troop performing on the Moll d'Espanya on the port of Barcelona.  Capoeira is really popular in BCN, but these guys were by far the best that I saw - very strong, flexible, and entertaining!

Monkey Suit

I was on a photographing graffiti mission by Drassanes in Barcelona, when this guy walked by.  It took me a few seconds to notice his outfit, especially since his butt was completely tattooed black.  He smiled at my curiosity and asked me if I wanted to take his picture.
How could I say no?

Happy Birthday Janine!

Happy Birthday to my lovely sister Janine!
I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful sister:
a great person, friend, listener, adventurer!
You're the greatest! I love you!
Now let's celebrate!

Pere Lachaise

This photo is of the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris.
Why are cemeteries designed to get you lost?  They're all windy streets, with forks everywhere, and a street name is nowhere to be seen.  Then, even if you manage to find the right section, the plot numbers are only marked on these tiny cement circles that are totally covered in grass!
But I have to say, the people that work there are very friendly!
Maybe people appreciate life more when they work in el ciudad de los muertos...

In Loving Memory

In loving memory of my Nana, Yvette Bentley Cronjager, who passed on this day 12 years ago.
I cherish your memory, I'm honored by your legacy, I'm inspired by your achievements,
I seek your solace, I'm comforted by your presence, and I miss you so!

Dinner Boys

This is a cartoon by my friend Tao Zheng.
I had about 60 baby dragons this summer, but I'm down to my last 6.
I never would have thought that that would feel like so few!  I don't really want to sell any more.
It's tough when the kids move out of the house!

Dog Surf

I went to a dog surf competition today.
My first place goes to this guy (and his owner)! Too cute!

The Loiret

They say you can't beat the weather in southern California, and well, they're right.  But I do miss the changing seasons.  There's something magical to me about the colors. Something changes in the air. And I can feel the circle of life and death. And my place on this ever changing planet.  Thank you universe, for the trees.
This photo is of the Loiret, an offshoot of the Loire River near Orleans, France.

Machine Gun Melodies

I took this picture in Boston last year.
What does it mean to you?  Or should I ask, how does it sound to you?

Balance Rock

There aren't many domains where I would consider myself to be conservative, but photography is certainly one!  I like to think that this is because I have a respect for the raw image, the work of the photographer directly through the camera.  However, another underlying reason is that I hate photo editing!  I especially realized this today as I embarked on my first journey through Photoshop.  Yes it's 2010, and today was my first adventure in photo editing. I only dove in due to a desire to create a watermark. (How'd I do?) I have to say that this was the most frustrating thing that I have done in the past month, at least!  Which means, I suppose, that I have a very nice life!  So here you go!  This is an image from Arches National Park, Balance Rock.

Lake Cultus

Oh yeah! I've got my sandwich, and I'm on my way!  This was my first time driving one of these types of motor boats, and despite a near crash while I was trying to exit the dock (!), it was smooth sailing afterwards!  Lake Cultus is beautiful, and we found a nice secluded beach to hang out on.  Onward HO!

The Niece

So I told Madeleine that she was my favorite niece, to which she replied
"I'm not Niece."
"You're my niece!" "No I not Niece!"
"You're not De-Niece, but you're my niece..."
"NOO I NOT NIECE!
I MADELEINE!!" "Ok ok, whatever you say...!"

Welcome!

Welcome to my brand new blog!  I'm slowly trying to figure this out  (as I'm a newbie) so it'll be a long while before anybody actually sees this!  I'm not sure what'll come of it: a collection of photographs? a traveler's journal? my take on life?  Tune in to find out!
